One area that is of particular importance to us is investing in the future of engineering, and this means supporting students.
As our way of continuing to support the next generation of engineers, Englobe donated $5000 in support of the Transportation Association of Canada’s Transportation and Civil Engineering (TRAC) Student Event. The goal of the workshop is to encourage Grades 11 and 12 students to consider a career in transportation and civil engineering by providing them with the opportunity to engage in specialized, mentor-driven learning.
TRAC student outreach programs are designed to provide teachers with curriculum enhancements which enable them to demonstrate engineering and transportation principles. Although relatively new to Canada, the TRAC student event concept was developed by the American Association of State and Highway Transportation Officials and is currently implemented in 36 states. The TAC has been working hard to coordinate TRAC events for Canadian students but has struggled due to lack of funding.
Through Englobe’s generous donation (both monetary and in-kind), the TAC was able to bring the TRAC program to students enrolled in the Ottawa-Carleton District School Board Specialist High Skills Major program. We are very proud to support local programming dedicated to fostering a passion for engineering, and to continue investing in the shared future of our industry and profession.
And, who knows, one (or more) of these bright young students just may be one of Englobe’s future best and brightest transportation engineers.
